A Must Have!

As a long-time musician, I know how valuable it can be to accompany or solo along with another piece of music to help improve your phrasing, discipline your timing, and help you explore and develop different melody structures (here breaking you out of the NAF habit I call "native noodling"). In my opinion, EVERYONE who has a budget for adding to their flute collection should set aside the relatively few dollars to get these tracks. Right away I jumped right in with a difficult nine-hole drone, which can be a little too "noodle-y" for solo improvisation and was getting me nowhere fast. But with these tracks in the background, the chains immediately came off--the melodies came out, the technique got sharp, I was quite literally blown away (ouch)! Whichever flute I choose, whenever I play against these tracks, I come away feeling extremely gratified and productive. Thanks, Jonny!

Tip: Segregate all the tracks into separate folders, BY KEY. This allows each folder to function as a self-running play list for any particular flute you want to work with, and allows you to flow with the changing feel of the different songs. And prepare to be liberated.

A Must Have!

As a long-time musician, I know the benefits of accompanying or soloing along with another piece of music. It helps to improve your phrasing and discipline your timing. Backing tracks like these also give you a foundation to explore and develop different melody structures, breaking you out of the habit of sitting around, as I call it, 'native noodling.'

Tip: The first thing I did was to segregate all the tracks into different folders, by KEY. This allows each folder to be a self-running play list for any particular flute you want to work with. Right off, I went with an E-minor nine-hole drone that working with solo was just giving me fits. I was getting nowhere fast and it wound up on the shelf. But running the Em tracks...WHAT-A-TRIP! The chains came off, the melodies came out, the technique got sharp. Which way to Carnegie Hall--like I had played that flute for years!

Absolutely everyone who has a budget for adding to their flute collection should set aside the dollars to get these tracks--and prepare to be liberated. Thanks, Jonny!
