I would absolutely bring this with me on nature trips, no matter the weather. This is my first indigenous-scale flute and figured out how to play by ear several major-scale songs I knew. It does sound different from a wooden flute, but still very pleasant. This would be the flute I'd recommend to beginners because of the low price point.

A few important things to note: 1) the leather strap is the weakest link, so make sure it's secure, because if you lose the block piece you can't play. 2) the plastic seems denser than water (I tested the block), so be careful not to drop it in deep water or it may sink. 3) the plastic causes moisture to bead up more so than for a wooden flute, so you still need to take care to dry it to prevent microbial growth (though the flute structure itself won't be compromised).

Fun sidenote: I bought 2 of these and taped them to a cardboard frame at an angle, and presto, double flute!

Plays well

This flute has good tone and is an excellent introduction to more traditional, "Indigenous" tuned flutes. The durable and waterproof construction and resistance to changing pitch with temperature makes this a great outdoors flute as well. Highly recommended.

I actually purchased this flute for a couple of reasons. A> To try out the Native Indigenous tuning and B> Because I was unsure about A, for the price point. The fact that it’s durable and weather proof was really a bonus. I’m really pleasantly surprised at how nice this little flute sounds and how well it plays! I also find that the alternate scale and fingering has helped to bring variety to my playing on my other flutes so all a win-win. I also like the movement to bring back into focus this original tuning and will most likely be finding a wooden flute using this tuning. It does have a bit more of a ‘recorder’ like sound IMHO, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing..just an observation and that’s a little bit of a trade off for the durability and weather proof features. All in all, I would recommend this maker..well done and proud to have it as part of my collection.

This flute is so magical! I love her voice so much and I’m excited to take her every where with me. I love the indigenous scale.
