The Buffalo Song is an original song by Jonny Lipford on the Native American flute and is part of the Flute Scales + Simple Rhythms Series on YouTube.

The songs in this series are meant to put a certain musical scale into action and combine them with a simple rhythm. This allows the flute player to integrate new note combinations into their everyday playing and sharing of music while learning to play along with simple rhythms.

What's included in this Resource Pack?

You'll receive the following items in this pack:

  • A simple (non-embellished) version of the sheet music [PDF] with finger diagrams.
  • The Single of the original recording [MP3].
  • The Rhythm Backing Track that you hear in the song.
  • A Scale Sheet of the Basic Scale (the scale used in this particular song).

The flute used in this recording is a Mid C4 flute made by Ron Stutz. Check it out here.

NOTE: The file is a compressed/zipped folder which you'll need to extract. Tutorials are available online if you need help. Files are in a PDF format which most devices will be able to open. Buffalo Song Resource Pack- E Minor

I really enjoyed learning Buffalo Song and adding my own embellishments to the piece as I learn. The sheet music that I received, however, was not in the correct key. The tabs/fingering charts were all correct, but it did not match up with the key. As a musician, I typically don't rely on fingering charts to read music, and I read the actual notation. I could still read the notation, as it was only a half step or step off, but I was a little disappointed that it wasn't accurate, key-wise, as I know it is very easy to transpose music notation using today's notation software.

Love the song and especially the backing track which can also be used for other songs. I have a popular C# flute with bison and medicine wheel totem with red and blue painted Native designs by Douglas Thunder Horse Goldsmith to play this song. Great!

Dear Jonny, I am from Italy and I found your web page. I am very happy about it. I have only one NAF in F# and I can learn a lot to your videos. The English gives me a little difficulty, but it's getting better. Your songs are wonderful, titles that come from your pen touch and resound through the NAF in the heart. Thanks a lot
Greetings from Italy

This is one of my favorites. The best way to learn scales is to play them in a song. With this song you can duet with yourself. Record the song and then play a second part with it.
