These Bamboo Bass OcariNAFs are a great addition to your flute collection. Each one is as uniquely different as we are, with the natural markings and characteristics of the bamboo.  The OcariNAF is part Native-style flute and part ocarina. Don't let the size fool you, even though this flute measures approximately 12" long, it produces the pitch F#3, which is "low F#" for us in the flute community. It's quite remarkable to hear such a deep, low tone from this instrument!

Here's what I love about it...
  • Easy scale: Just like our minor pentatonic Native-style flutes, this OcariNAF plays just like a 5-hole NAF. Three playing holes on the right side should be lifted one at a time from the bottom, then the two playing holes on the left side. The fingering is exactly the same.
  • Compact design: Its compact design makes it an incredible instrument to pack into your purse, backpack, or hiking bag and take on the road, up a cliff, or to the studio without taking up too much space.
  • The voice: The voice of this OcariNAF is earthy and resonating lending itself well to meditative works or playing out in the woods. It's not an overly loud instrument, so it's wonderful for quiet places.

But these flutes do come with a Caveat...

They have a fairly large diameter and the holes (particularly the top ones) so if you have thinner fingers or have struggled with covering the holes on larger flutes then this might not be the instrument for you.

Low and compact!

Very unique and a great space saver compared to most flutes. Certainly not my favorite flute in my collection but great sound and unique shape.

LOVE THIS OcariNAF!

I so enjoy playing this instrument, the sound is so beautiful, it doesn’t wet out like the other OcariNAF, it has an amazing, deep sound, and it’s just fun. The two holes on the left side are larger, as described but I have normal, female hands and I don’t have trouble covering those holes. They’re very similar to a bass 432Hz flute I have and they are very well-placed so I don’t feel like I have to stretch or play it any differently than other flutes I have. This is now the flute I reach for every day.

Peace and Solitude

The flute with its deep F#3 tone is absolutely relaxing in the hectic world. The flute is recreating a key that normally requires an instrument 4-5 times the size of the ocarina the instrument is also very pretty to hold and look at. Price point is perfect.

Bamboo bass ocariNAF

I received the bamboo bass ocariNAF last week and have been very impressed with the quality and volume of deep sound such a small instrument can provide! I have come across several bass ocariNAF's in recent years and this one hands down beats them all! Thank you Jonny for locating such a great maker and making it available to us.
